Rukia Labs is a training operations platform. An organisation runs its programmes on it: the courses it teaches, the cohorts that move through them, the people enrolled, the work they hand in, and the record of what they achieved.

These guides are organised by what you are trying to do, not by which screen it lives on. If you know the job, the contents list on the left will get you to it faster than the search box.

How the platform is laid out

Your organisation has its own address — yourorg.rukialabs.com — and three consoles sit under it:

They are one product and one sign-in. Signing in on any of them signs you in to all three; moving between them does not ask for your password again.

Which ones you can open depends on the roles you hold in the organisation, not on knowing the URL. If you hold a staff role, a mode switcher sits at the top of the sidebar — Student Mode, Instructor Mode, Admin Mode — and opens the other console in a new tab. If you do not, there is no switcher, and the other addresses will turn you away.

The words this platform uses

A handful of terms do a lot of work here, and two of them are easy to confuse.

Course — the teaching material: topics, lessons, quizzes and assignments. A course is written once.

Cohort — a group of people moving through a programme together, with a start date and usually an end date.

Offering — one course being run by one cohort. This is where the teaching staff, the class schedule and the grades actually live. The same course run by three cohorts is three offerings, and they do not share marks.

Pathway — an ordered series of courses that adds up to a qualification or a track.

Topic — a section of a course. Lessons, quizzes and assignments all belong to a topic.

A note on what you can see

Almost everything in the product is scoped to your organisation. Courses, users, cohorts, grades and files belong to one organisation and are not visible from another, even to someone who belongs to both. When a guide says "everyone", it means everyone in your organisation.

Inside that, what you can see is decided by your role and by what you are attached to. An instructor sees the courses they teach; an admin sees all of them. If a screen in these guides is missing from your sidebar, that is usually the reason — see Roles and permissions.

You are probably reading this at one of two addresses.

rukialabs.com/docs is the general documentation, in Rukia Labs' own branding.

yourorg.rukialabs.com/docs is the same documentation served inside your organisation, in your organisation's colours and with its logo. The content is identical. Only the paint differs.
